A Bayou's Blessings
The pilgrimage A journey home Brought to you by covid Sponsored by 'bout 20 years in Katrinaโs diaspora But I'd never guess Home was next Like a heated blanket on a winter's night With crisp, hot chocolate and a movie You are my revived safe space My happy place "All inhibitions drowned In 10 months on the Bayou" There was no space for them Amongst the joy, family, the crawfish, the king cake The second lining and the buck jiving I've been praying harder since I've been home To God, my ancestors, myself And as my worries build up They wash away on the beautiful Bayou They may linger like full April clouds But once I hit the bayou They come pouring down And evaporate into blessings Like children playing in the sun Or lovers waning under a glowing crescent moon There were moments when I felt my prayers received no response But more and more I heard โLearn to believe it Learn to believe you So you're not surprised when it worksโ Why would the answers to your prayers surprise you otherwise? Why pray if you don't believe? There is no magic in that No hope to propel your desires toward the spirits dedicated to your prosperity But on the Bayou I found mustard seeds And new breeds of hope "I'm flying seven mountains higher than the valley of death that brought me here" What's not to believe? What's not to receive? What's not to be grateful for? When your journey has brought you home Where your ancestors wade in the water on your behalf Interpreting every cast Teaching you of your own power Your own magic And their hymns allow you to ascend to higher versions of yourself Learn to believe it And don't be surprised when it works -NaSha Knows ๐
